I nearly missed my flight to Bilbao (from Madrid) because I'd arrived late at the airport (due to unexpectedly heavy traffic in the city 'cos Zapatero was addressing parliament that day or something). Only to be greeted with a snaking line at Spanair's check-in counter. *insert long story* But I managed to arrive at the gate 5 minutes before boarding began. Phew!

Welcome to Bilbao! I like this town. It has 2 parts (like many other cities) - the old town and the newer development. I stayed in the latter, at a modern boutique hotel (Miro Hotel - great facilities & the most efficient staff ever) about a 2-minute walk from the Guggenheim Museum. Lovely area.
The first sight I saw, quite literally, after settling into the hotel. Jeff Koons "Puppy". It's over 12m high and is made of real flowers.
I love the green hills in the background.
An outdoor theatre in the Old Town.
Wow, I hardly see these anymore. I think that it's still being operated. It was sitting in a huge park that ran along the length of the downtown area. Maybe it wasn't running 'cos it was siesta time. Yes, the siesta tradition is still very much alive in Spain, esp. outside major cities like Barcelona and Madrid.
