April 10 - Bilbao

The reason I visited Bilbao - the Guggenheim Museum by Frank Gehry! Ta da!

Surreal Things was on exhibit. Exactly the kind of art I don't understand. I mean, the pieces were very interesting and some were kinda mind-blowing. I think that Surrealist art is meant to shock and awe. It reaches beyond the boundaries of ordinary imagination and pushes the limits of rationality. For example, the Lobster telephone (by DalĂ). Funky, but I mean, it's a combination of 2 things from very different places! How does one come up with something like that? Like a durian and a concert hall...oh, but that'd be the Esplanade, wouldn't it? See, I'm totally uncreative, like a fish in the desert.

Just so you can appreciate the curves of this Gehry building. The "arrival" of the Guggenheim really reshaped Bilbao, which was a more like a sleepy, polluted industrial town pre-Guggenheim.

Managed to take a few shots of the interior before being told very sternly (complete with forceful gestures) by a lady security officer that photography inside is not allowed. I can be a clueless tourist.

Maman by Louise Bourgeois. A bit creepy.

The friendly flora doggie again.
